Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer launched in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Grams. m. b. H. " as a company of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau will be German for Igniter in addition to Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand for weapons parts declined right after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor of the company, and two years later he diversified in the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the microcar, moped and Scooter (bike) markets. The company collapsed in 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets cycle and electric bicycles while using Zundapp name and brand. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The primary Zündapp motorcycle was the particular model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle pertaining to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of heavy motorcycles began in 1933 with the K-series. The "K" refers to the type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed products from 200 to 800 cc displacement and was a significant success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in conjunction with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Trunk no. 1) sidecar system was produced between 1938 along with 1941 and supplied exclusively towards Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and at last replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was for being the only remnant to live beyond the destruction involving war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production in the late 1940s, it chose to recycling the KS600's motor in order to power the KS601 using few modifications. The Zündapp K800 had unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a structure adopted by Honda for that Gold Wing in 1974) and were the sole 4-cylinder machines used because of the German armed forces with WWII.

Via 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Car für Jedermann ("car pertaining to everyone"), which was the first time the name Volkswagen had been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder flat engine, but Zündapp used a water-cooled 5-cylinder radial motor. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in the 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp produced the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp with a foot gear change, and 170 examples ended up built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced in excess of 18, 000 units of your Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit using a driven side wheel and also a locking differential, supplied to the German Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines like the 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" powerplant scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for the type. In 1951 Zündapp released a final of its heavy street bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the corporation also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some accomplishment in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning your 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and once again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds available well, but later sales dropped and in 1984 the organization went bankrupt and finished.

After the bankruptcy, the entire production collection and intellectual properties seemed to be bought by Xunda Generator Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still operational, but makes Honda dependent 4-stroke motorcycles and power mopeds.Zündapp also had any technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (dependant on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake along with a sleeveless hard chromed tube barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that region.
