Zündapp was a serious German motorcycle manufacturer launched in 1917 in Nuremberg by simply Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and also the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau G. m. b. The primary Zündapp motorcycle was your model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle pertaining to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of large motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to the sort of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed designs from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was a major success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% within 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 horsepower (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). Via 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car pertaining to everyone"), which was the new the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder flat engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial powerplant. In 1932 three prototypes had been running. All three cars were lost in the war, the last in a new 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid.From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp created the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp with a foot gear change, and 170 examples were built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced over 18, 000 units of the Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel along with a locking differential, supplied to the German born Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines including the 9-092, which was used inside light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) belly initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller machines, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for the type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (this "green elephant") with a 598 cc two-cylinder motor. From 1957 to 1958 the business also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the company moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some success in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning the actual 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and yet again in 1974. Following your bankruptcy, the entire production collection and intellectual properties was bought by Xunda Generator Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still operational, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and energy mopeds.Zündapp also had a technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to create small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (dependant on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed canister barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that nation.
