Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft having two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 900 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% throughout 1931 to 18% within 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hewlett packard (21 kW) flat in a trench opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Boot no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 and also 1941 and supplied exclusively towards the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and in the end replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to call home beyond the destruction connected with war. After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller machines, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine due to the type. In 1951 Zündapp released the last of its heavy bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the particular "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the corporation moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed a number of new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievements in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning the 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds offered well, but later sales diminished and in 1984 the company went bankrupt and shut.

Following bankruptcy, the entire production series and intellectual properties was bought by Xunda Powerplant Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp cycles from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda dependent 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Noble Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (determined by Zündapp KS175) was introduced to be a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed tube barrel, all were a first with a motorcycle in that land.
