Zündapp was a significant German motorcycle manufacturer created in 1917 in Nuremberg by simply Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau H. m. b. H. " as a maker of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau will be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand for weapons parts declined soon after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor in the company, and two years later he diversified in the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the actual microcar, moped and Scooter (street bike) markets. The company collapsed throughout 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bike and electric bicycles using the Zundapp name and emblem. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The primary Zündapp motorcycle was the model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Zündapp's history of weighty motorcycles began in 1933 with the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these products used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft along with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then a novelty). The series encompassed designs from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was a significant success, increasing Zündapp's market write about in Germany from 5% with 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp . p . (21 kW) flat in a trench opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often as well as a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Trunk no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 and 1941 and supplied exclusively for the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and ultimately replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to become the only remnant to reside beyond the destruction connected with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 having few modifications. The Zündapp K800 experienced unit construction, flat-four engines with shaft drive (a layout adopted by Honda to the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the sole 4-cylinder machines used through the German armed forces in WWII.

Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Automobile für Jedermann ("car intended for everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder ripped engine, but Zündapp used some sort of water-cooled 5-cylinder radial powerplant. In 1932 three prototypes were being running. All three cars were lost during the war, the last in some sort of 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp made the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp that has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of the particular Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel as well as a locking differential, supplied to the German Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as the 9-092, which was used throughout light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine due to the type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (this "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder serps. From 1957 to 1958 the corporation also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some good results in motorsports with rider André Malherbe winning this 125cc European motocross titles in 1973 and once more in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds sold well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the organization went bankrupt and closed.

After the bankruptcy, the entire production brand and intellectual properties was bought by Xunda Electric motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda primarily based 4-stroke motorcycles and power mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Noble Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai inside early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and a sleeveless hard chromed cyndrical tube barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that country.
