Zündapp was a major German motorcycle manufacturer started in 1917 in Nuremberg simply by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a maker of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter in addition to Apparatus). The 1st Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle with regard to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 while using the K-series. The "K" refers to the type of drivetrain that these products used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 800 cc displacement and was a significant success, increasing Zündapp's market talk about in Germany from 5% throughout 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 horsepower (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder motor with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Footwear no. 1) sidecar physique was produced between 1938 in addition to 1941 and supplied exclusively on the Wehrmacht. By 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Automotive für Jedermann ("car for everyone"), which was the new the name Volkswagen seemed to be used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder flat engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes have been running. After WWII this company transitioned to smaller machines, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the last of its heavy bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (your "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder engine. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the firm moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed many new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievements in motorsports with riders André Malherbe winning the actual 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and once more in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds distributed well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the organization went bankrupt and sealed.

Following your bankruptcy, the entire production brand and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Generator Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still operating, but makes Honda primarily based 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to production small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (according to Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and a sleeveless hard chromed cylinder barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that state.
