Zündapp was a significant German motorcycle manufacturer launched in 1917 in Nuremberg through Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and also the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau H. m. b. H. " as a manufacturer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau will be German for Igniter and also Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand regarding weapons parts declined immediately after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor on the company, and two years later he diversified in to the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into your microcar, moped and Scooter (street motorcycle) markets. The company collapsed inside 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bike and electric bicycles while using Zundapp name and logo. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The very first Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Zündapp's history of heavy motorcycles began in 1933 using the K-series. The "K" refers to the drivetrain that these types used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft along with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was a major success, increasing Zündapp's market discuss in Germany from 5% with 1931 to 18% within 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 horsepower (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often coupled with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Start no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively on the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and at last replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to become the only remnant to reside beyond the destruction connected with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production within the late 1940s, it chose to reuse the KS600's motor to power the KS601 having few modifications. The Zündapp K800 experienced unit construction, flat-four engines with the whole length drive (a design adopted by Honda for the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only real 4-cylinder machines used through the German armed forces inside WWII.

Through 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Automotive für Jedermann ("car for everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen seemed to be used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes were being running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in some sort of 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp created the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp using a foot gear change, and 170 examples have been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of the Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit having a driven side wheel along with a locking differential, supplied to the German Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines like 9-092, which was used inside light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) belly initio trainer aircraft.

As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production brand and intellectual properties had been bought by Xunda Engine Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till earlier 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda dependent 4-stroke motorcycles and energy mopeds.Zündapp also had some sort of technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus along with the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and also a sleeveless hard chromed cyndrical tube barrel, all were a first on the motorcycle in that state.
